Piastri was sitting in fourth place with Norris right behind him, but disaster struck for McLaren when the British driver tried to shoot through a gap that wasn't there. Norris clipped his teammate and then collided with the wall, ending his race as a safety car was deployed.
George Russell said he hopes Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will continue to throw away points to propel him into this season’s world championship fight. Russell won from pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix to claim his first triumph of the year and just the fourth of his career.
